Diseases From Rats To Humans

Rats has been feared throughout history as the bearer of disease. It is known that the rats has its part for the black plague that wipe out 30% of the europe population in the 13th century. There are many diseases that rats can infect human with and here are some of it:

  1. Eosinophilic Meningitis: There is a parasite that’s called Angiostrongylus cantonensis that lives in the rats arteries. If for some reason the larvae gets into your body it will be transported to the central nervous system, which is part of your brain. Eosinophilic is a white blood cells whose jobs is to fight virus, bacteria and parasite by releasing toxic material into the foreign invader. The blood cells then release the toxic material into your central nervous system resulting inflammation on the membrane your brain.
  2. Rat-Bite Fever: When a rat scratch or bite you then beware of this disease. There are bacterias that are called Streptobacillus moniliformis or Spirillum minus that usually lives in the mouth of the rats. Food or water that are contaminated with the rats feces also contain the bacteria and thus it give you the rat-bite fever.
  3. Hantavirus: Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) is a rare disease that can cause severe illness. It is caused by contact with the feces or urine of an infected rats. It is deadly as 30% of people who have this disease won’t survive. It is important that when you clean up cabin or areas that has rats poop and urine to take extra precaution.
  4. Murine Typhus: This is caused by the rat fleas. It is not deadly if its get treated immediately. If no treatment is given then there is ten to sixty percent chance the person will die depend on the person age and immune system.
  5. Leptospirosis: This is the most common disease that rats carries. It can infect humans and animals. Caused by the bacteria of the genus Leptospira. It usually spread to human by the rats urine getting into scars in the skin or into the eyes or the nose.
No wonder people are so afraid of the disease that rats can give you. Mostly its not about the rat, but about the urine and feces of the rats that has all kind of those bacteria. In order to stay healthy make sure you clean your place of rats.
