Is Lead acetate dangerous? Well, if the name has “lead” on it then it surely dangerous. Lead is a metal that act as neurotoxin in the skin and bone. If you got a certain amount of exposure then you’ll develop brain damage and failed nerve system. Lead acetate share the same danger as Lead.

So how come there are products (beauty products) that are using them? Products like hair dyes, waterproofing compounds, and varnishes usually use lead acetate. Isn’t it dangerous especially hair dyes as it will contact your body?

It is banned in for many products including hair dyes in many countries. However, in U.S hair dyes still use this toxic material.

Why is it still allowed to be used? From the FDA announcement they said that after testing the product with lead acetate in it in a controlled environment, people who has been tested doesn’t show any trace of lead in their blood. As long as you used it for the hair and not for anything else like eating it or use it for body paint.

The amount of lead acetate in the product is also tiny so if there is a poisoning then you should be ok anyway.
