No. It’s not contagious.
The infection usually goes on in the middle ear. There are three parts of ear which are the outer canal of the ear, the middle ear, and the inner ear where its task is to balance your body. The middle ear is the place where ear infection could happen.
Why is it not contagious? Well, first we need to know how we get it in the first place. Do keep in mind that ear infection commonly happen on kids only.
There is a small tube between the ear and the back of the nose and throat which is called the Eustachian tube. This tube task is to drains mucus from the middle ear. In adult or a grown kid this would work perfectly fine and that’s why you won’t get adult or teenager get an ear infection.
In kids however, the Eustachian tube is still immature. They are smaller, shorter, and angled and so the bacteria or germs can go from the nose and throat into the middle ear and thus ear infection.
Ear infection and cold. Why they are connected? When your kids has a cold, the nose is clogged and mucus gather in the back of the nose and this become the breeding ground and a standing ground for the invasion to the middle ear. That’s why you would commonly see ear infection in children with cold.
So is it contagious? Directly no. There is chances that the kid would transfer its cold to other kids that would cause ear infection, but from ear infection to ear infection is just not possible.
