So we all have heard the tale that we shouldn’t swim after eating. Why? It can cause stomach cramp and thus make you drown.
I had experience with many cramps before like leg cramps and stomach cramps. The leg cramps is easy to fix as all you need to do is pull the muscle in the cramp legs to fix it and you still can do it yourself. For the stomach cramps, it is beyond my expectation. I couldn’t move, I could’t stand, I couldn’t talk much, I can’t do anything when stomach cramps attack.
So the thought of drowning when swimming after eating due to stomach cramps is certainly real and possible.
However, the possibilites that eating after meal cause cramps is still debatable. I never have the stomach cramp during swimming, even after eating. The common thing people have when swimming after eating is that they get stomach ache, but never cramps.
People can get awful tummy ache when they go sprint swim and do some heavy swimming.
How long should you wait after eating before going in for a swim? An hour or two before you do heavy swimming. For gentle or playing around the water then it won’t matter if you do straight to the water.
