Yes, some people have blood sugar at 600. Some of my friends reach that high number once back then. It is very dangerous when the blood sugar reach that level.

Why it is so dangerous? Blood sugar is considered high when it reach 240, now when it reach 600 then that would be twice the limit. Most blood glucose reader device stop at 600, so there are chance’s that it could be higher than 600. When it reach 600, it can cause one of these two life threatening condition:

  • Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Nonketotic Syndrome (HHNS)
  • Ketoacidosis

Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Nonketotic Syndrome (HHNS) is a condition where the person try to flush out the excess sugar in the blood from urine. They would urinate again and again, they would quickly become thirsty and if they don’t hydrate themselves the urine can become dark. After the hydration, come the seizures, coma and eventually death.

The symptoms for HHNS are: thirst, dry mouth, dry skin, high fever, sleepy, vision loss, and hallucination.

Ketoacidosis, this happen when your body produce too many ketones. Ketones are a poisonous substance that are created when too much sugar that can’t go into the cell and thus your body start feeding its own muscle and this is how ketones are formed. Even when your blood sugar are at 300, your body can still produce ketones so it is important to check if there are ketones in the urine using urinalysis strips. When too much ketones in the system you can suddenly go into a diabetic coma and followed by death.

The symptoms for ketoacidosis are: very dry mouth, frequent urination, high blood glucose levels, feel tired all the time, dry skin, hard to breath, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.

Recommended action to do when reach 600? Go visit a doctor, or even go to the ER. Don’t try to make it down yourself as it is very dangerous.
