So yesterday when I was trying to sleep my right ear start to ring, I was wondering what it is and what could it mean. So I do some homework and here what I found:
Sign and Omen:
There are an old Chinese saying that if the left ear is ringing, then it mean someone is thinking about you. However, if it is the right ear that is ringing, then it mean you will lose money.
This saying was from Tung Shu an Ancient Chinese Almanac which dates back to thousands of years ago from China, when physical sensations in our body were interpreted for fortune telling.
What it really mean:
Maybe because I was unhappy my right ear that is ringing, which is a bad thing. I search for other clue about why my right ear is ringing from medical point of view.
So I found out that from medical point of view that ringing in the right or in the left is a bad sign, because it mean you are losing your hearing. Most people who use hearing aid started with ringing in their ear. Scary stuff isn’t it?
I felt lucky because my ringing is in the right ear, if my ringing is in the left ear I could see that it as a good omen and won’t check for the medical perspective.
The ringing in the ear means you are experiencing tinnitus. Tinnitus is the ringing, buzzing, crackling, or hissing sound heard inside one or both ears. Tinnitus is a common thing so don’t be afraid that it only happen to you because there are probably 50 million people in America experienced tinnitus.
So what could be the cause of this? There are many factor that make people experience tinnitus ranging from allergy, high or low blood pressure (blood circulation problems), a tumor, diabetes, thyroid problems, injury to the head or neck, cold, flu, high salt intake, sugar, artificial sweeteners, alcohol, various medications, tobacco, caffeine, antibiotics, sedatives, antidepressants, and aspirin.
Finding out what could be the cause of the problem is probably the best way to cure this problem. I know what mine is, I was having a bad flu and it is one of the cause of tinnitus as mentioned above.
So is it a sign for hearing loss? Well, only from chronic tinnitus and aging, people can get hearing loss. If you are young, then there is nothing to worry about. If the ringing in your ears is persistent or if it becomes worse, and if it is accompanied by dizziness or hearing loss, it’s time to see a doctor.
